Potty Training Mia!!!

0

The “stay at home” lifestyle began for my family on Monday, March 16, 2020. This was the week Melvin started working from home and Mia’s school was closed until further notice. Therefore, I decided why not try to potty train Mia since we decided we are not going to take Mia out any time soon.

I let her be on that Monday and noticed each time I was changing her diaper my back would hurt. Therefore, on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, I brought out Mia’s potty and decided to let her be diaper free during this time. Every time she peed, I would tell her, “Oh, no, Mia!!! You need to pee pee and poop in here.” With God’s grace, she did poop in there so I gave her a sticker as a reward.

I would talk about the potty training experience on my Instagram stories and would get a lot of suggestions from followers. One of our friends told me to put her in underwear. Therefore, that day I told hubby to put her to bed so that I could go to the store and get her some underwear. Hence, the next day, we started making sure she wore her underwear.

By the following week, she wanted to “pee pee” and “poop” in the toilet. Therefore, I would take the top of her toilet to our restroom. This way, she could “pee pee” like her mom. I want to say I think this was a quick transition for us because every time I would use the restroom, I would say to her, “Mama has to pee pee Mia!” I would keep the door open so that she could see how I was doing it. Literally two days later, she didn’t want her top of the toilet anymore and would sit on the toilet by herself. This was awesome because it was one less step for this preggo mama!!!

Did she fall in the toilet? Yes, she definitely fell inside the toilet one time because she was with her dad. As soon as I heard it, I went to the bathroom and was like “oh, no, Mia!!! You have to use your hands to make sure you don’t fall in!!!” Of course her dad cleaned her up but after that incident, she has never fallen in the toilet again…yayyy!!! Also, during this week, I started taking her to the restroom every hour if she didn’t say anything instead of the first week where I was doing every 15 or 20 minutes.

We have officially hit the one month mark of potty training and its amazing!!! She definitely knows when she wants to “poop” so she always uses the restroom for that. At the same time, “pee pee” time is not something she has mastered yet on her own. Therefore, I take her every hour if she doesn’t say she has to go. This way, we can avoid accidents.

At the same time, I’m thinking may be I should let her have some accidents so that she can realize what’s happening…what do you think?

-XOXO-
